Alleyway Theatre Presents: Girls Who Walked on Glass

Girls Who Walked on Glass, a new immersive play project by hit Broadway playwright Gordon Farrell will premiere at Alleyway Theatre May 30th through June 22, 2019, directed by Neal Radice. True stories intertwine to expose a dangerous world which has ill-prepared three young women to meet its challenges and temptations. It is the final production of the company’s 39th season of producing new plays and musicals.

Broadway playwright Gordon Farrell returns home to Alleyway Theatre to adapt stories from contributing authors Molly Heckerling, Tatiana Gelfand, and Lucy A. Robbins as he creates a new maze of storytelling, where the audience literally walks along the journey with these women as they cope with life’s unpredictable, jagged edges.

Buffalo audiences will remember Mr. Farrell’s work at Alleyway beginning with Voice Of America in 1991. Two more plays followed before he and Alleyway founder Neal Radice collaborated to create their Sherlock Holmes musical trilogy in the late 1990s. Lifespan Of A Fact, Mr Farrell’s latest play, debuted to critical acclaim this season on Broadway at Roundabout’s Studio 54 starring Daniel Radcliffe, Cherry Jones and Bobby Cannavale. The New York Times called Lifespan a “terrifically engaging Broadway drama.”

Mr. Farrell has already made several trips to Buffalo to develop Girls Who Walked on Glass and a private reading was held in March. Mr. Radice and Mr. Farrell will continue to work closely throughout the rehearsal process in order to create the inner-workings of this immersive project. Mr. Radice observes “This will be the most unusual use to which our space has ever been put… and that’s saying something considering our history of readily reconfiguring the theatre to accommodate each new play. Girls Who Walked On Glass demands something of a maze of rooms and environments for audience members to experience.”

Girls Who Walked on Glass will star Jamie Nablo. Ms. Nablo holds a BFA in Theatre Performance from Niagara University. She has worked with Irish Classical, MusicalFare, The Kavinoky Theatre, Shakespeare in Delaware Park, New Phoenix Theatre, O’Connell & Company, Buffalo United Artists, Brazen-Faced Varlets, Subversive, Lancaster Opera House, ART/WNY, Torn Space, Jewish Repertory Theatre, Desiderio’s Dinner Theatre, Buffalo Chrysalis Theatre Company, The Francis Bacon Experiment and Theater Jugend. She was part of the Artie Award winning ensemble of Subversive Theatre’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Also starring are Emily Yancey and Ember Tate. Featured are Daniel Greer, John Panepinto, James Cichocki, Trevor Dugan, Gayle Petri, Betsy Bittar, Niki Nowak, Lillian Reszel and Sandra Roberts.

Girls Who Walked on Glass is designed by Todd Warfield with costumes by new Alleyway Resident Costume Designer James Cichocki.
