NFTA Metro Rail Above Ground Service & Court Street Closed Through November 24
10.09.24
In order to keep improving the NFTA Metro Rail system, Above-Ground service will be temporarily shut down through November 24th. During this time, riders will need to transfer to a bus shuttle at Allen Station. Buses will stop at all 8-Main stops between Allen and Canalside Stations.
Between October 28th and November 8th, the intersection of Main and Court will be closed, impacting Metro Bus routes 1, 2, 4, 69, 70 and 72. Single-tracking resumes on November 24th and full regular service on both tracks resumes on December 1st until further notice. For more information, visit https://metro.nfta.com/.
Court Street and Lafayette Square will be closed to vehicular traffic crossing Main Street from through November 24th for Metro Rail construction work:
– Wiring of new catenary poles will be completed, and old poles will be removed.
– The median between inbound and outbound lanes will be excavated and new curbing and concrete will be installed. This work will start at Mohawk Street and work south to Church and N. Division.
– New catenary wire powering Metro Rail will be installed between Chippewa Street and Lower Main Street. More detail will be provided about this work next week. It will involve pedestrian, automobile, and parking detours as work proceeds in each block. Contractors will install catenary wiring on one side of the trackbed while the other side remains open for use, and then will switch to the other side of the street where detours will move Downtown patrons from the worksite.
Contractors are preparing for median construction to start next week, and are wiring the new catenary poles below:
Single tracking will resume on November 4th while contractors complete several trackbed punch-list items. Expect to see construction fencing come down soon after, restoring the east side path between M&T Plaza and Lafayette Square. Full Metro Rail service will resume on both tracks on December 1st.
