UNEARTHED: Hunt Residencies Cohort VIII
10.07.25
Hunt Gallery proudly presents UNEARTHED, the culminating exhibition of Hunt Residencies Cohort VIII, marking the completion of their six-month residency.
At its core, UNEARTHED is about what lies beneath the layers of process, identity, and emotion that each artist brings to light through their practice. Across mediums, these seven artists engage in acts of excavation: of self, of memory, of form.
Sabrina Parsons paints with immediacy and motion, propelled by innate speed and neutrality that invites multiple ways of seeing. Naija Boles reveals the pulse of life with paints, large gestures and movement, somewhere between holding on and letting go. Andrea Wenglowsky’s photographic collages are embroidered with generational archives of Ukrainian heritage, memory, and female archetypes that give resilient cultural histories new visibility. Quaid Baker’s crisp cut-paper forms strip universally recognized icond to their essence, a play on societal interpretations that carries a much needed humor and humility, begging the question, is this a rich person’s backyard or a trailer park? Nia Jael Bronner celebrates the choice to create for oneself, unearthing the joy, purpose, and possibility of claiming one’s truth through acrylic color and beadwork. Shelby Kittinger reflects the authenticity of emotion on canvas as she sews together painted fragments of self and influence, testing the boundaries between nature, nurture, and individuality. Sarah Sonnenburg merges feminine figures, flora, and landscape in lush oil paintings that intertwine the beauty of growth and belonging.
Together, the artists remind us that creation is not simply about what is made, but about what is unearthed, about oneself, about others, and about the community at large. In supporting these artists, Hunt Residencies continues to build a foundation for discovery and exchange, nourishing Buffalo’s downtown arts ecosystem with fresh voices and new visions.
