Mal Blum’s new album, The Villain, out via Get Better Records, marks a bold return, blending sharp lyricism with textured indie, alt-rock, and pop sounds to explore themes of identity, perception, and the complexity of human narratives—especially around the societal scapegoating of trans people. Meanwhile, Charlie Mtn., the alt-country project from queer punk veteran John-Allison Weiss, emerges from a personal era of transformation, channeling heartfelt, gritty songwriting with a country twist. The two acts will soon team up on tour following Charlie Mtn.’s upcoming debut LP.
