Barrio Poetry Slam

On Thursday, October 9th, the Barrio Poetry Slam returns with a night of spoken word, cultura, and community at Shea’s 710 Theatre, presented in partnership with Los Artistas del Barrio Buffalo. Poets from across the community will take the stage to share original works exploring heritage, identity, memory, and the Latino experience, all tied to this year’s theme: Arroz con habichuelas: More than a meal. Expect high energy, powerful performances, and a celebration of creativity rooted in culture.

The evening features special guest poet Yamilla Tate, a Buffalo-born, Puerto Rican-raised writer and slam poet whose work has been showcased nationally. Highlights also include music by DJ Chaz, MC Michele Agosto, cash prizes, medals, light bites, and an open mic session. Whether you’re stepping up to the mic or cheering from the audience, this event promises an unforgettable night of rhythm, pride, and community.
