Sunday, January 13th, join Mohawk Place for Weakened Friends. Doors will open at 6:30p and admission is $10 in advance.
Weakened Friends is a wiry, whimsical, and wild fusion of disarming pop hooks and fuzzed-out riffs. Weakened Friends includes Sonia Sturino [vocals, guitar], Annie Hoffman [bass], and Cam Jones [drums]. The group first congregated in their adopted hometown of Portland, Maine in 2014. Sturino had recently relocated from Toronto. “If something is ear catching and interesting, I’m drawn to it,” says Sturino. “I love pop hooks, but I have this truly weird and shaky voice. I started to embrace that, and I think people connect to the sound.”
Weakened Friends released two independent EPs, “Gloomy Tunes” and “Crushed” and stirred up a palpable buzz. Gigs followed with bands including CHVRCHES and Silversun Pickups as they made their 2017 debut at SXSW where they earned praise from Vanyaland, CBS, If It’s Too Loud, and many more.
