SUMMARY:Solar Celebration at Silo City
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, June 21st\, Let There Be Light International hosts a fundraising event at Duende in Silo City. The event begins at 5:30pm and donations are accepted. For more information and to donate\, click here. \nLet There Be Light International\, a local nonprofit dedicated to climate action and renewable energy\, is hosting this event to provide solar lighting to families\, elders\, and health clinics in off-grid Africa. Featuring live music from the acoustic duo “Middlemen\,” stunning Ugandan artwork\, authentic East African refreshments\, and solar lights to brighten your summer nights\, this event will be the perfect opportunity to gather with friends and family (new and old). \nExecutive Director\, Sarah Baird\, is excited to bring this signature event back to Duende after a two-year hiatus. Held annually on the Summer Solstice on the banks of the Buffalo River and in the shadows of Buffalo’s famous industrial silos\, LTBLI’s Solar Celebration brings together members of the Buffalo community to celebrate the power of solar lights and collective action to benefit rural communities in Africa. All are welcome. \nThere is a $30 suggested minimum donation to attend (online link coming and donations accepted at the door). 100% of donations directly support vulnerable families and rural health clinics. Your Return on (charitable) Investment is 10x for every dollar you give\, as families save $150 by eliminating kerosene after receiving a $15 solar light!

SUMMARY:Chastity Brown
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, June 21st at 8pm\, Chastity Brown preforms at the 9th Ward at Babeville. The event begins at 8pm and admission starts at $15. For more information and tickets\, click here. \nAs the daughter of a blues musician\, Chastity Brown was born with an innate ability to channel wrenching circumstances into beautiful\, uplifting songs. But after surviving the isolation of the early pandemic and a global racial reckoning that was set off mere blocks from her South Minneapolis home\, even she was surprised to hear the way her latest album was taking shape. With the exception of “Golden\,” a searing indictment of white complacency and a cathartic release of post-uprising rage that comes halfway through the album\, Chastity’s new release\, Sing to the Walls\, is ultimately an album about hope\, connection\, and love—an ode to the sweetness of life\, even amid a pandemic\, even in a city that’s experienced so much pain.
