Named in tribute to Jamaica’s legendary Channel One studio\, the group helped bring reggae music to communities that lacked access through mainstream outlets. Since debuting at the Notting Hill Carnival in 1982\, Channel One has been a central force in the festival’s celebration of Caribbean culture\, led by original selector Mikey Dread\, who spins strictly vinyl alongside MCs Macky Banton and Ras Sherby. Known for their deep bass\, conscious reggae\, and uplifting steppas\, Channel One’s mission is to “break down barriers via reggae music.” Their influence now spans globally\, with performances across Europe\, Asia\, and the Americas\, a London residency at Village Underground\, and a reputation for spreading unity and positivity through sound. \nFounded in 2012\, Dub-Stuy is a Brooklyn-based collective\, record label\, and sound system pushing the boundaries of dub music and sound system culture across North America.
